That's right. I blogged two days in a row.
Dad has the best taste in music. Because of him, I can rock out to Celine Dion, Warrant, AC/DC, Wilson Philips, and my all time favorite, Mariah Carey. This is how I remember her:
We all know she is a bit different now, but the 90's was a long time ago.
I have a funny video of me singing to "Emotions", which if i have time to edit, will post. About 5 days ago on campus there was a karaoke challenge, and "Always be my baby" came on. I know every word to that song. Nay, I know every intonation, pause and breath. I almost couldn't contain myself, but I proceeded faithfully to the math lab. Part of me wants to rewind and make a fool of myself by belting that song for all the cougars to hear. I would have NAILED it.
Thanks, Dad, for teaching me what quality music sounds like.
oh this cracks me up. You totally should have done it. And, Wilson Philips? Hah, you hypocrite! Yes, Dad has great taste in music. So much so that today I enjoyed my Pandora station of Yanni, which, without being introduced to him by Dad years ago, I would have missed out on some amazingly sweet tunes created by a man with flowing locks of dark hair.
ReplyDeleteAs a post edit, Yanni is only played in our house while Craig is gone. I wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise! He truly is missing out.
Cliff, your posts are so funny! They take me back to the good old days. I will always remember Dad's poster of Madonna in the garage that Mom hated, and the "Jane Child" lady with the chain going from her nose to her ear. You really should have done that karaoke--I totally would have! I still love Mariah Carey and my BYU roommates would listen to me sing her in our apartment and would say I could sing as good or better than her.
ReplyDeleteAnd what is this emotions video? Is this a recent one? You must post it! Or at least email it to your sisters.
I am still suffering with Dad's "great" tast in music! Lately it has been his 80's heavy metal bands when he has to turn up the volume full blast for the guitar solos! I told him he should have been a rock star, but he quickly responded that he did not have the hair for it! And, I'm with Craig when it comes to Yanni, or as I call him, "YAWN-y"
ReplyDeleteLove you Cliff...and I would LOVE to see the video!
Mom
p.s. And, don't forget his crush on Joan Jett! (he will NEVER admit it!)
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I appreciate many types of music and have a very eclectic taste for many genres. I call Yanni my relaxation music (also Enya). I like my guitar riffs, and AC/DC and the metal bands are cool. I especially like the heavy metal rock ballads. On Sundays, I like the 100.3 music which includes Amy Grant and others. In this soul soothing genre, do you remeber the Celtic Women and Charlotte Church? My study music is jazz. Mariah, and others were brilliant in their early days, and seem to have been spoiled over time (a common theme). I am so glad music is a part of your life. And Jane Child was a one hit wonder, but it was a very creative song (see VH1 classic website). I still listen to new artists, and enjoy a wide variety of music. Mom has taught me to like some western artists as well. Let's not forget the bagpipes.
ReplyDeleteLove Dad
Dad, you have no idea how much my music tastes mirror your own....
ReplyDeleteAnd mom, I love how you said you are still "suffering" from Dad's "great" taste in music!! Haha. You guys make me laugh.
Dad. You are awesome. You have a very diverse sense of style. PS, Yanni just came out with a new album! Let's throw a listening party this Sunday and invite Mom as the guest of honor. She will love his new stuff, I guarantee it.
ReplyDeleteToday at lunch Dad opened his fortune cookie. It read: "You have a deep appreciation for the arts and music" Pretty good huh?
ReplyDeleteWoooah a lot of comments. Let me read them first and I'll post mine.
ReplyDeleteHaha, can I just say that I LOVE our family! This post and all your comments just made my day. I miss the days when Dad would blast his music and I would go to his office to sing along. And I totally remember Jane Child with the chain fron her nose to her ear. Good times.
