Weeeeee are the Championssss

My roommate Blake Day and myself won the BYU Men's Doubles Racquetball tournament this morning.

After a first round loss, we fought our way back to the championship. Our opponents, Mr. Thiriot and Mr. Glade, were formidable opponents. You have to win two games out of three to win the match. We lost our first game, destroyed them 15-3 our second game, and won 11-5 the third game to win the match!

It wasn't over.

Because they hadn't lost, we had to beat them twice (double elimination). After the first match, Mr. Thiriot started having back spasms. We had to reschedule the second match for the following night. He showed up and said "I am too injured to play". So.. after a lot of discussion, we said "Okay. Tomorrow morning 7am."

We showed up about 6:50 and realized they had been there for a while warming up. Their wives were also in attendance. We lost the first game 15-12, destroyed them 15-5 the second game, and in the third game we were down 10-7. Game on the line, one point to go, I returned their serve and then Blake killed it in the back corner. Down 10-7, we scored four points in a row to win 11-10. Victory! We won the championship!!!!

It was a great morning. I will post pictures soon. I love racquetball.

Humanitarian Project

Here is the idea:

Give 100-500 pounds of food a week to low-income, homeless, disabled individuals in Provo each week. Allow missionaries in the MTC to deliver the food and share the Gospel with them on site or at a local site under close supervision.

How?

Currently ALL of BYU's extra food is used to make mulch. Fertilizer. Etc. How much food? Thousands of pounds each week.

Let's save 100-500 pounds and give it to those who actually need it: Human Beings.

What about the flowers and trees?

Let's raise tuition by 1 dollar for each student to make up for the cost of mulch. (1 dollar times 25,000 students = $25,000.)

Why?

An average of 8000 meals a month were served in 2008 to needy individuals right here in Provo.
Why can't BYU contribute?

People need food, missionaries need people to teach, and all of the resources are available. The problem is that they are not being used for the best purpose. There is a better way.

What do you think? Ideas?

Thanksgiving Time!

Here is Rhonda and I at Grannie's for Thanksgiving. I don't know where you all are finding yourselves for Thanksgiving, but I win the contest. Seriously, of all the places in the world to be on a holiday known for the large amounts of traditional American food eaten, who wouldn't want to be with Paula Glover? Gosh I can't wait to go home 10 pounds heavier. I hope all is going well. Sorry I never post.

Who stole the cookies from the cookie jar... Rhonda stole the cookies from teh cookie jar... Rhonda says "NO!! Cindel says me! Then Karina, then me".

Who remembers Rhonda's famous appearance on my baby video?

The Computer Lab

One of the joys of being an engineering student is the consistent attendance of the computer lab, located in the talmage building. Each day I am in here working on a program for my computer systems class, and each day I am pleasantly surprised to find out how interesting people are.

Example 1: I asked a fellow student what a certain device was used for. His response "A death ray!!!"

Example 2: Right now there is a girl hiccuping every 5 seconds, and its getting a little out of hand.

Example 3: Cute girl walks in. Engineering student who has an internship at PlayStation next summer says "Are you in this class?!" to which she gives him a very serious glare "Yes". He then says "Wow, you don't look like you would be in this class" as he adjusts his glasses.

I was laughing for a long time after that.

It always gets interesting here in the Windows lab of the Talmage building. I will keep you posted, as I'm sure crazy and quirky moments are looming on the horizon.

Wednesdays

You know what happens every Wednesday? Well first, country swing dancing at the REC. Holy cow that is fun. But even cooler.... new missionaries arrive. Every Wednesday floods of cars pour in to the MTC lot to drop off the new Elders and Sisters. As I was walking to work today, I realized how exactly two years ago I was one of them. The only thing that is different is time. Time is the only thing that separates us. I have been on this earth for 2 years longer than those new elders and sisters, but in those two years I did things that have changed who I am and who I will become. I had the realization today of how valuable time really is. If in two years I became who I am today, what will I be like in 5? 10? 50? What are you doing with your time?

Family

Today I spent time with my Mom and Grandma. It was probably the most fun and relaxing time I have had all week. If I was a betting man, I would put money on the fact that God gave me some time to be with them, because He knew I would need it. Everything I needed to do this week got done in amazing time, and for a few hours I could just relax with two of the most loving people I know. Here is to family.
